Trauma and Sex Therapist providing Online Counseling in NC, VA, DC, and SC

Looking for a therapist near you?

When you are trying to figure out what is going on, but you feel all over the place! Saying you are overwhelmed is an understatement.

You’re the one that everybody goes to when they need help; you always have such good advice.  However, you’ve accepted that something is not right, and you are feeling more drained than anything.  You have talked to doctors, you’ve read self-help books, talked to friends, ignored it, and tried various medications.  You’ve been struggling for so long, and you are ready to move forward.  But how do you find the right therapist, one that you can trust and feel supported?  The therapy process needs to happen with someone you can trust and can click with.

I’m here to simplify the therapy process.

Heyy, my name is LaTina Edmonds, and I am a licensed therapist and certified sex therapist in Fayetteville/Fort Liberty, NC, VA, DC, and in SC.  There is so much pain going on around us, and I know how it feels to feel as though you are putting your needs on the back burner to show up for everyone around you but yourself.  I know the feeling of having a traumatic event happen, and the world now feels unsafe.  I enrolled in a master’s program in professional counseling for this very reason.  As I began providing therapy, I realized how trauma affects not only our minds but it lives in our bodies as well.  Along with becoming a therapist, I noticed that there were so many people who were not finding pleasure in themselves or their relationships due to past sexual traumas and pursued sex therapy.  I wanted to become better equipped as a therapist to provide clients with the best evidence-based therapy techniques as they are trying to make sense of life after trauma.

What kind of therapist am I?

I am not just going to smile and nod, cross my legs, and ask you repeatedly, “how does that make you feel?”  Will I ask it at some point, most likely, but it will be because I want you to drop down into your body and notice how you are feeling about something?  Because I believe in therapy and that it should work, we are going to set goals at the beginning so that we always know what we are working towards.  I am going to celebrate you on the journey because healing is not the easiest thing to do.

We will definitely laugh and engage in the language of sarcasm.  Why so serious? Life is too short for us to not be able to let our hair down sometimes.  I want you to be excited about the progress you are making. Therapy does not have to always be hard or scary; therapy with me is easy.  That means you show up as you are, no judgment!  All I am concerned with is that you are comfortable and ready to start your healing.

We are going to work!  There are going to be days when you are like “LaTina, I quit.”  But after we get curious and explore it, dropping down into your body, you can learn to express how you are feeling.  Then there will also be days when we reflect on everything and you are confident in yourself and your journey.  I am going to give you tools that you can use between our sessions, yep, homework! (But the fun talk about your feelings and emotions kind).  We are going to learn about you and learn how to incorporate what you know to be true and original about you into who you show up as each and every day.

I’m not the therapist for everyone, and that is totally okay.  If, after our consult, you decide that I am not the best fit or I decide that I cannot provide the best therapy for you, I’ll refer you to someone who can best serve you.  It is at the core of my ethics and values.
